For several years, MDMA-assisted therapy for PTSD looked like it was on a fast track to becoming the first FDA-approved psychedelic medicine in the US.

(For those new to this topic, MDMA is a psychedelic compound commonly known as “ecstasy” when used as a party drug. In clinical settings, it is known as midomafetamine.)

Since the FDA’s rejection of Lykos’ application, the political landscape has shifted. Top officials in the U.S. Health and Human Services agency have repeatedly signaled support for psychedelic therapies.
